While the color masking tool may be handy, I just can't see why these programs can't just allow full precision masking. This especially so for Phsse One, who don't sell an image editor. I personally hate those weird and unnecessary catalogues and I believe many photographers do too. Give sessions a try, no need for catalogs ; I personally have never used catalogs with C1 until lately for archiving purposes. In this case the date will be the 25th of januari and the project name we'll call fstoppers.
So then the session will be named fstoppers as you can see in the first image. By doing this all my projects sessions will be placed in chronological order as you can see in the second image. If you shoot tethered in this session all the shots you make will be stored in your capture folder, if you didn't use tethered shooting simply copy the files from your memory card to the capture folder and open the capture folder in your session.
I love this! C-1 say it's not possible, but it's possible with LR. I've just moved to C-1 but this is a pain. I am surprised there is not more information about advanced searching feature on windows. I dealt with the support team for over a month because you can't seem to search multiple files on windows. It took me over a month to get them to test it themselves and then they realized I was right.
From what I understand this basic feature is still not corrected in version 9. Would love to hear from other Windows users if this works for them or if they have found a way around it.
In a large collection, this will be a massive time saver and make the selection process easier for you and your clients on set. Simple but useful! If you are working in a Catalog or Session with multiple collections, a new menu item means you can move through them, even without the Library tool open. A default shortcut exists too. A whole culling process could be done without taking your hands off the keyboard!
If you have a collection with a number of image clones, you can now choose to select by that same Variant position. One of the most useful new features in Capture One 9. This will help enormously when receiving select lists from clients and no longer having to pick your way through large collections. You will find it in a new Menu item that was added in Capture One 9. This feature is probably the biggest time saver in Capture One 9.

Under the hood, Capture One 9 has a new engine with totally reworked contrast, brightness and saturation algorithms. In previous versions of Capture One, Contrast slider was a fast and handy tool, but unfortunately with some limitations — at a high value it becomes seriously destructive for the image color.
Last few years Brightness was pretty much out of the main toolset. Updated Brightness engine is something really new; it works smoother and smarter, like a specific mix of HDR, Exposure, and mid-tones Curve correction.
Starting from Capture One 7, Saturation always was a smart tool. What is also quite interesting — all the new tools work better together. New Saturation combines nicely with new Contrast; and new Brightness works well with both of them.
If you are familiar with LAB processing, you could already guess how many possibilities that new curve may unlock. It means you can erase it or draw on it, copy it and invert the mask. If Color Editor will select some excess objects in the frame — just remove it or add a new mask. Now everything comes together. With all the previous versions of Capture One, we were delivered step by step up to this moment.
With Capture One 9 you can create astonishing complicated masks with just a few clicks and edit them with all the tools including Red, Green, Blue, and Luma Curve channels. First of all Brush tool was upgraded with two new masking features: Flow and Airbrush.
